EMPOWER NY is looking for a creative web developer to join our team in our Manhattan headquarters. Our customers have come to expect a level of quality and reliability from our service, and we need someone who can keep up that level. This is a salaried full-time position with benefits.

Role & Responsibilities:
• Build new or extend existing web-based features and interfaces for the EMPOWER NY service.
• Code primarily in PHP, HTML, JavaScript (jQuery), and CSS.
• Enhance our web-based administration and customer support interfaces.

Qualifications:
• Experience of object oriented programming
• Two or more years of PHP and JavaScript experience.
• Two or more years of MySQL experience.
• Two or more years of front-end web development including CSS and jQuery, and an understanding of Ajax.
• Ability to skillfully write well-structured and well-commented code.
• You don’t have to be a good designer, but you should have good design taste. We care about each pixel the user sees and you should too.
• Know and admit when something is not great and recognize when something you’ve done needs improvement.
• Be able to promptly answer support related email, phone calls and other electronic communications.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Good communication, writing, and teamwork abilities.
• Self motivated, detail-oriented and organized.

Nice-to-Have’s:
• Knowledgeable about browser-specific issues and incompatibilities.
• Startup experience.
• Experience with Photoshop.
• Experience with distributed version control systems.
